••Eric Knoche•• Biography

Eric Knoche touched clay for the first time ten years ago and has had dirty hands ever since. Originally from Minnesota, Eric took a roundabout path to his current residence in North Carolina which included extended stops in India, Thailand, New York and California. He also spent two months as a guest artist at Big Table Studios in Herman, NE during the construction and first firing of a large Japanese style wood fired kiln. In addition to playing with mud, he enjoys hiking, reading and checking the cloud formations for the face of Elvis. Eric can be found at the Clay Space Co-op in the River arts District of Asheville North Carolina.

••Eric Knoche•• Statement

My current work ranges from small vessels to human size outdoor works to manipulatable sculpture to large installations with many pieces. All of my work is meant to be experienced both visually and tactually and all of the work is wood fired. Here are some things that I think about and probably influence my work: male and female figures, bones, machine parts, houses, clouds, landscapes, algebra equations, micro-facial movements, the difference between 'fact' and 'truth,' the way different spaces make me feel, alphabets and foreign languages, tools I don't know how to use, what it actually means to be 'honest,' the distortional nature of memory, heirloom construction, plants, neutron stars, running water, and songbirds. Thank you for your time.
