I usually paint my crab apple paintings in settings that have warm dark backgrounds with the brightly colored apples illuminated in the sunlight highly contrasting with that background. The paintings tend to be melancholy in mood telling the end of a season. However this painting has a very bright setting with an intensely blue sky with verdant greens and soft pinks. The time is late fall but the mood is fresh and light. To me it could be a metaphor for the eschaton, the unknown future of creation. Even at the seeming end there is the promise of a new beginning.
