Stigmata Spring Painted in the spring of 2020 while confined to my studio by the pandemic, I saw this pair of white dogwood as symbols of suffering in the seasonal time of new life. The cross form of the four bracts and the dark red at the tips of those bracts can be visual metaphors of the Christian story which is celebrated at Easter in the spring. The dogwood tree ‘blossoms’ in the early spring with the opening of the bracts which reveal the small buds in the center which become the true blossoms of the dogwood. Hope in the time of a cold spring.
