ARTIST STATEMENT

My work explores the varying relationships between chaos and harmony, whether it’s applied in a nontraditional landscape or portrait using a combination of texture and colors. I use a variety of materials and techniques in each painting to create a psychologically dense experience that is unique, narrative, and also playful.

I’m inspired by the works of Anselm Kiefer, Robert Rauschenber, Gerhardt Richter and Aaron Siskind. I like combining these artist’s methods in my work.

My use of unconventional tools allows me to control the work in a rapid way as acrylic dries quickly. Working in this manner allows me to add depth and meaning to my work that is often challenging for viewers (and even myself,) to recognize.
